A simple Javascript that adds auto-complete (alternatively called type-ahead/tracing/find-as-you-type) effect to dropdown menus displayed in Internet Explorer. In IE, when user press "MA" in a drop down menu, IE will first select the first option starting with "M", then select the first option starting with "A", giving user "AK" while user actually wanted "MA" for massachusetts. Using this script, user will get "MA" if "M" and "A" are consecutively typed (if user type "M", then after a while "A", user will still be taken to "AK" as an intended behavior). Comments in script is provided so that one can customize to determine how fast user has to type to get "MA" not "M", "A". Currently only IE is supported as dropdown menu in Mozilla Firefox already has this smart behavior. Other browser could be added if requested.

The control allows you to verify and validate both integer or float (decimal) number formats. The control contains the necessary error check algorithms to ensure that your users does not enter invalid characters (i.e. alphabetical characters). Use this Javascript function to check or uncheck all the checkboxes in a form. This function is specially designed for dynamic pages with varying numbers of checkboxes. Unlike other functions out there, it will work without error even if there are no checkboxes or there is only one checkbox. It is also significantly faster for long lists, because it saves the length of the checkbox in a variable, instead of recalculating it in the loop. Finally, the function is granted to the public domain--use it as you wish.

This is a simple form validation script that checks for empty fields. Dreamweaver offers very little in JavaScript form validation unless you're using Cold Fusion. In my opinion the built-in form validation behavior in Dreamweaver is sloppy and not user friendly. This script creates required fields and makes sure that the fields are not empty when the user submits the form. If the required fields are empty, the form does not submit and the focus is set to that text field. Setting the focus is a nice feature because the user is directed to the exact field that produced the error. You can do more with this script by making sure the form does not contain certain words, email address validation, and so on. For this demonstration I am only showing the basic script. Feel free to modify and utilize this script in any way you see fit. If you have any questions, contact me.

Many forms will require the user to enter an email address twice (to check for typographical errors). This script immediately notifies the user when the two fields match - it's a nice, user-friendly touch, and safe for all browsers.

Traditional HTML Select Menus aren't very good for presenting Hierarchical data, and this script was made to address that need. It allows you to build a Select-like Menu, which can contain any number of Sub-Menus, of infinite depth, so you can let your visitor drill down to the item they want instead of scrolling for it. The new control ties to a Hidden form field, so the selected value is submitted as normal. Works with all major browsers.
